Built to investigate, deliver and explain

Anweshan was established in Nepal in 2016 to help institutions work through complex public-interest questions with credible evidence, practical delivery and communication that respects the audience.

Our story

Our name comes from the idea of inquiry: looking closely, asking better questions and following the evidence where it leads.

That instinct has shaped Anweshan from its earliest multi-district studies to national surveys, health-system assignments, digital platforms, policy products and regional public-health work. We have worked with government institutions, UN agencies, universities, international NGOs, research partners and technical programmes. The subjects vary, but the operating challenge is often the same: several disciplines must work together, the context cannot be treated as an afterthought, and the final output must survive contact with real decisions.

Anweshan's team brings research, public health, data, technology, writing, design and field coordination into one delivery structure. This allows us to stay with an assignment from inception and ethics through data collection, analysis, stakeholder review, publication and communication. We are based in Nepal and increasingly connected to European research and life-sciences networks through Basel. That combination gives partners a locally grounded team and an international point of engagement.

Mountain landscape in Nepal

Our vision

A future where decisions affecting health, development and public life are grounded in rigorous research and credible evidence, shaped by the people and communities they concern, and translated into action that advances health, well-being and lasting progress.

Our mission

To generate rigorous, ethical and contextually grounded evidence and translate it into better decisions, stronger systems and practical action that advance the health and well-being of people and communities.

We collaborate with governments, civil society, and the private sector to support policy development, strengthen health systems, and advance innovative financing and technological integration, addressing the underlying social determinants of health. Our work is grounded in principles of participation, ownership, and knowledge transfer, ensuring lasting impact for all stakeholders.

Mission pillars

  • Research, Evaluation and Advisory

We work with governments, development partners, institutions and communities to understand complex realities, evaluate what works and transform evidence into policies, programmes and communication that improve public life.

  • Clinical Research Organisation

Through our CRO practice, we design and deliver ethical, high-quality clinical, public health and implementation research—from study design and regulatory support to field implementation, data management, analysis and scientific reporting—combining international research standards with deep local understanding.

Our purpose

Anweshan exists to close the distance between information and action. We work where a policy question, programme challenge or research need requires more than a report: careful inquiry, practical delivery, honest interpretation and an output that can be used.

What we promise

  • 01

    We understand the decision

We begin with the choice, policy or operational problem the evidence must inform.

  • 02

We protect the integrity of the work

Methods, data, authorship and limitations remain visible and defensible.

  • 03

    We work in context

Tools and recommendations reflect local systems, languages, incentives and constraints.

  • 04

We stay through the difficult middle

Coordination, fieldwork, quality checks, revisions and approvals are part of the assignment.

  • 05

    We finish for use

A deliverable is complete when the intended audience can understand and apply it.

How we work

    01

    Frame

We clarify the decision, audience, context and evidence gap before locking the method.

    02

    Design

We assemble the disciplines, tools, approvals, quality controls and delivery plan the assignment needs.

    03

    Deliver

We coordinate field teams, institutions, data flows, production and review with visible accountability.

    04

    Interpret

We connect findings to the operating and policy context, including limits and competing explanations.

    05

    Translate

We turn the evidence into the report, system, guideline, learning product or communication the audience can use.

Values and working principles

    Evidence before assertion

We say what the evidence supports and make uncertainty explicit.

    Respect for people and place

Research participants, field teams and institutions are partners in the quality of the work.

    Clarity with substance

We simplify language and presentation without simplifying the issue.

    Responsibility for delivery

We own coordination, quality and completion, not only our individual task.

    Learning in the open

We use feedback, document limitations and improve the work through review.

    Independence with collaboration

We offer an honest technical view while working constructively with clients and stakeholders.
